My lavender – Week 3

There are a lot of benefits for engaging in self-sufficient hobbies such as gardening, cooking, sewing etc. I used to think that such domestic skills are not necessary for guys or husbands . But after putting some thought, I find that it has many benefits even if it is not necessary.

For example, gardening. It can give you a sense of self-reliance so that you can save some money (by producing your own fruit, vegetable, and herbal medicine), avoiding unhealthy chemical inside foods sold in the market, giving satisfaction for your soul for working with nature (which is part of God’s creation) and also create possibility to earn some money by selling your garden products.

I just start to try gardening by planting lavender and put it inside a pot on front yard in my apartment. Full-grown lavender is shown below:

I started planting its seeds 3 weeks ago. According to what I read, it took several weeks to germinate and the success rate is below 50%. However, I think it’s worth the time when you consider its uses as herb:

  • Mild antidepressant, helpful in dispelling depression and melancholy.
  • Relieve tension, stress, and insomnia.
  • Effective antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic agent. Useful in treaing a hostof infections including staph, strep, colds and flus.
  • Relieve indigestion and calming stomach muscle spasms, which are sometimes caused by irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease.

Here is my lavender on week 3 (still very small though):

About edwinlt

I am currently Indonesian expatriate working in Singapore. I am currently working as security researcher in National University of Singapore. I write this blog to share to readers about my life principle on various aspects, like religion, politics, business, relationship, and technology. I am interested in alternative worldviews because I found that many things taught to us by establishments are not true and harmful. My dream is to become self-sufficient in food and energy. Hopefully, someday I can have my own fruit garden and my own power plant and able to sell my electricity to power company. I hope readers enjoy my blog.
